The Physicians Association for AIDS Care (PAAC) was the first organization to support US physicians in the mid-1980s as they ministered to people who, given limited treatment options, were quickly dying of AIDS-related complications. PAAC was the precursor to the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (IAPAC), which was incorporated on 7th February 1995 to represent HIV-treating physicians and allied healthcare professionals worldwide.
Today, IAPAC is known as the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care - a name change that took place on 1st December 2012 as formal acknowledgement of the contributions made by various cadres of professional and paraprofessional providers of HIV prevention, care, and treatment services. IAPAC represents more than 20,000 members in over 150 countries. Its mission is “to expand access to and improve the quality of prevention, care, and treatment services provided to people affected by and living with HIV and its co-morbid conditions".
At the Load Zero Foundation, our vision is to help end the devastation brought on by HIV in developing regions around world. The Load Zero Foundation (LZF) is the world's only philanthropic organization specifically dedicated to funding low cost viral load testing for over 28 million HIV patients in Africa, India, and Southeast Asia. The foundation funds viral load tests designed for low technology laboratories to measure all HIV types and subtypes active in these regions through donations.
In addition to the Viral Load test, the LZF funds laboratory equipment, technical training, and infrastructure to support viral load testing where HIV is most prevalent and resources are exceptionally limited. The LZF is truly unique in that we have negotiated deep discounts and matching donations with suppliers of tests and lab equipment; these discounts are achievable because of the LZF purchasing power and volume discounts; making it possible for the LZF to create fully equipped “lab in a box” for new viral load testing facilities for well under $20K.
